The 570 square foot Watershed
Geology Lab currently includes a hood, drying oven, freezer,
vacuum, gas, glassware, petrographic microscope, precision balances,
and three computers for laboratory and field data analysis and
geospatial visualization through 2D and 3D mapping. Additional
field gear for student learning and research includes autolevels,
rotating laser, prismless total stations, nsontek acoustic dopper velocity profilers, pygmy current meters, Price AA
current meters, flow probes, tapes, cross section stakes, Helley-Smith
bedload samplers, DH-48 suspended load samplers, bedload sieves and shaker, USGS modified
Parshall flume, and kite-borne digital aerial photography.
In collaboration with the CSUMB Seafloor Mapping Lab watershed students have access to high-resolution digital bathymetry and coastal morphology data sets for research on Earth surface processes and geomorphic change.
The
Watershed Geology Laboratory space
